Nerf Gun

My son loves to shoot his nerf gun at the windows and mirrors because they stick so well.  Then I found him shooting it at a dry erase board.  OMG!!!!  Singing Time light bulb went on!

After alot of thinking of how this was going to work I finally figure it out.  I drew alot of ballons on my dry erase board with the number of the song on them.

I went out and purchased my very own nerf gun (This is the only smaller one the PX had---oh how I miss Walmart at times).

I had the kids stand a few feet away from the board and aim for a target.  They loved it!!

Lola and Bubba

Meet my friends Lola and Bubba.

Lola and Bubba are my new helpers during singing time.  They hold the songs and ideas on how to sing the songs for me.

When the children sing really well Bubba says in his deep voice "YEAAAH" and a child gets to pull the next song we're going to sing.

And Lola says "OOO LALA" and a child gets to pick what style we sing the song in.
(Opera, Staccato, whisper, etc)

It was a hit for the kids. They love saying YEAAAH! and OOOO LALA with me when they reached in and picked out a slip of paper.

Bowling

Fun Fun Fun with some bowling.

I taped the words to a song they were learning on the board.
I then took 8oz water bottles and arranged them in bowling pin formation.
They first sang the song with all the words on the board.
Then a child came up and rolled the the ball to see how many water bottles they can knock down.
However many water bottles they knocked down was how many words they had to take off the board.
We continued until very few words were left.  The kids loved every bit of it.
Definitely a REPEAT!

Raise the Roof!

I had a few "AFRO" wigs in my costum bin and decided to put them to use this last week.  I had the missionaries put them on with a some shades. I explained to the kids that we needed to "Raise the Roof" today with our singing.  I then introduced them to our judges (the cool missionaries with Afro's and shades).  One of the missionaries judged volume and the other judged the words.  If they sang really well the missionaries would "raise the roof" by pumping their arms up and down.  The missionaries really played into it.  If they sang well they would pump their arms.  But if they sang really well they would stand up and pump their arms to the beat.  It was phenomenal and the kids are already asking for the cool judges back.  I'll definitely take pictures next time and post them.

New Year Bash!

Many many years ago when my husband and I were first married, we purchased a tent for the Ayling family annual campout.  And with the tent came a light that could be switched on and off with a remote.  One night I craweled into bed and the bathroom light off of our room kept switching on and off.  Every time I alerted my husband that it was switched on again it would switch off as soon as he sat up to look.  He kept accusing me of going crazy until FINALLY the light was on when he looked!!  I would shortly figure out through my husband's laughter that he was controlling the light the entire time and the only reason he was caught looking when the bathroom light switched on was because of failed batteries.  I was so oblivious to how the bathroom light kept switching on and off at the time and thought it quite entertaining to see how my primary kids reactied to it.

The brainstorming began...........How can I use this in Singing Time?

When they sing well the light would "miraculously" switch on! Viola!

Although I think this would have been suffice, I couldn't just end there.  The New Year just began and I was absolutely amazed at the firework display by the local residence here in Germany.  So I decided to have a New Years Party for the kids.  Not only would the light come on when they sang well, but when they sang exremely well a FIREWORK would go off!  (Someone from the presidency popped a balloon and gently tossed a firework) Not just any firework.  The best fireworks you've ever seen!

                                                            Check out these babies!

I used small foam balls and stabbed all around it with lolli pops.

And to add a little more color I stabbed in a few colorful swordpicks.

And there you have it...the ultimate firework.

At the end of singing time they got to eat their fireworks!

How Many Words

A new year means and new song!  I started by teaching the kids the words to the new song this year "If I Listen with My Heart"
After they got a good feel for the song I challenged them to remember the words.  A child came up and rolled the dice.  What ever number it landed on was how many words they had to remember.  The pianist played the song and would stop.  Another child would have to guess the next word or words.  They loved it and already know the first verse very well!
